"So Who's The Pedophile In The Corner Of The Bar?"

Earlier in the month I wrote a post about the Moustache-Off '07. For those with a short memory, either click the link or just read this brief explanation. In a drunken stupor, a buddy and I made a prop bet on who could grow the best moustache in one month. Judging would occur New Years Eve and the loser pays the New Years Eve bar tab.

Well it is on tonight, but I must admit I can't wait to get this thing off of me. I've been itching so bad it is killing me. I've grown beards in the past and had no problems with itching, but for whatever reason, this stache is getting on my last nerve. Not to mention, I look like a serious Person Of Interest when just sporting the stache (as I've mentioned before).

Even though I'm ready to chop this thing off my face, if I do win the contest tonight, I may just keep the stache for one more day. Tomorrow is Bad Bloods 4th Annual New Years Day Tournament and if I win tonight I might just keep it on to continue the winning ways. I dread the 3 hour drive just to play poker, but there is no way I'm missing that game or the chance to spend some time with the G-Vegas crew. Always a great time.

And with that, please wish me luck in having all my alcamaholic beverages paid for tonight. 'Cause that is really what matters in the end, right? Right?

Until next time, may the felt be with you .

Dewey, Checkum & Rayez

I got to thinking yesterday, which is scary and quite possibly dangerous to the general public. I was thinking about poker bloggers and their professions. We pretty much run the gamete when it comes to bringing home the bacon. The more I thought about it, however, one particular profession seemed to stick out.

Attorneys.

What is it that lures so many attorneys to poker and poker blogging?

Is it the almighty dorra dorra birr?
Is it an escape from "the real world."
Is it control - or to 180 that notion - lack there of?
Is it for the same reasons that most anyone plays poker, thus rendering this post pointless?

Or is it just a coincidence that so many poker bloggers are attorneys? Maybe I'm wrong, but I can immediately think of 5 poker bloggers and friends I read on a daily basis that are attorneys. I can't think of any other profession that stands out as much from my blogroll. And I'm sure there are many more I'm not thinking of.

So that is the question of the day...and I certainly hope a few poker blogging attorneys will chime in with their thoughts.

And on a totally random note, while searching for a picture that might go well with this post, I came across the above book image. Might possibly be an interesting read...or not. If someone reads, or has already read it, let me know what you thought.

Until next time, may the felt be with you.

Group Prop Bet For Mookie and MATH 2008

Had an idea for a simple group prop bet and wanted to gauge every one's thoughts. Pretty simple really...

~ Everyone interested pays $10 prior to January 2, 2008 (via transfer on Full Tilt to me).
~ I will list everyone who entered via post here prior to the 1st Mookie of 2008 on January 3rd.
~ The first person on the list to win a Mookie gets half the pot.
~ The second person on the list to win a Mookie gets the remainder of the pot (1st winner remains on list so they can win both).

We could do one for the Mookie and a separate one for the MATH so you could choose one or both ($10 for each). Nothing groundbreaking here, just a little extra incentive to win a non-BBT blonkament. Figured effing Hoy might be down with a little side action to help him on his path to a Mookie win in 2008. : )

Let me know if you are interested via the comments. If you have any ideas to change it up, just let me know. Based on potential interest, I will then do a follow-up post.

Until next time, may the felt be with you.

Blogger Luck Game Results: Vin-Aye Deckslapped

I can pretty much sum up the Blogger Luck Game with the following three words...

Twenty Two Minutes

A tournament with 32 entrants took 22 minutes to complete and I enjoyed every minute. I won't bore you with my stats...actually yes I will...it will take 2.2 seconds to review. I started UTG and folded some crap hand figuring it would be my one chance to go for a better hand. Then on the 2nd hand in the BB, I called numerous all-ins with Q high and was up against QQ. No love for me and I'm out. Two hands in and I wasn't even the first player out...I was the 7th player out!

VinNay ended up getting hit with the deck and took down the first ever luck game, so congrats go out to his lucksack ass. Below are the final results. A big thanks to those who played and/or pimped this random ass tourney. Let me know what you guys think. If enough people let me know that they want to do it again sometime, I'll set up another series at some point.

Fanks yallz

Until next time, may the felt be with you.

TranceJax

I found a new way to lose in poker...fall asleep. We had our company Christmas party last night so I had a few drinks (primarily beer and soco) and ultimately ended back at my house (no I didn't drive). When I got home I didn't feel tired so I decided to fire up Full Tilt. I'm fine with drinking and playing online poker, but I should know better than to mix drinks and late, late night. I woke up at 7:00am, still on the couch. I went straight to bed not even thinking about the game until I woke up just a few minutes ago. This was the easiest $30 this dude ever made...

Blogger Luck Game This Sunday!

Don't forget about the Blogger Luck Game this Sunday. Now that the BBTwo is over, come on and play some mind numbing push monkey poker that probably won't last more than 30 minutes...and that's just for the winner. Bring it fonkeys!

I'm lazy, so I'm just copying and pasting my post from Wednesday below...without all the naughty words...

I'm starting to remember why I didn't mind so much when we bagged the DADI poker tournaments.

First, I screwed up and posted the wrong banner for the Blogger Luck Game, which has since been pimped around with the incorrect information. A big thank you to everyone who has pimped it so far...sorry I gave you bad info. In case you missed the edit to my previous post, the banner should read 5 minute blinds, not 3 minute blinds. That makes all the difference in the world. LOL WTF EVER.

Still I have corrected my error and posted the correct banner below. If you happen to pimp the event going forward, please use the below banner.

Second, Full Tilt mistakenly set up the tournament for Saturday, 12.22.07, when I had asked for Sunday 12.23.07. They have since corrected this issue, but they had to cancel the original tournament. I was at work at the time, so unable to see if anyone other than myself was already registered. If you were registered (*Wednesday or before*), please be sure to log back in and re-register for the correct tourney. My apologies for the mix-up...Full Tilt flubbed that one up, but no big deal.

I have to hand it to folks like Al, Hoy and Mookie who host weekly tournaments. This shstuff is not easy, especially when you're a fonk up like me.

BBTwo Cool For School: jeciimd

When looking back on the very first Big Game of BBTwo, when I finished 2nd to jeciimd, I recall initially not giving him the credit he deserved. Not on this blog, mind you, but in my head as I sat there on the couch dazed at what had just happened. I'll admit I was stunned I made it so deep, had a massive chip lead, then ended up finishing 2nd. Since it was the very first tournament of the BBTwo, in that moment I didn't even think twice about the importance of getting the TOC. The next day that nugget eventually sunk in.

A few more things have sunk in since then. First off, jeciimd has game. Take a look at this...

~ 27 Events Played (that's dedication)
~ 2 BBTwo Wins (that's impressive)
~ 1 BBTwo Aussie Package Win (that's 18k biatches!)
~ 7 Final Tables (that's sick)
~ 9 In The Points (that's standard jeciimd)
~ 8 In The Money (sick again)
~ $20,733.14 Money Earned (that's un.fuck.ing.real).
~ 1st in Overall Points (that's pretty obvious seeing the above).
~ 1st in Money Earned (no shit).

Lets take another look at that last number. Including the 18k package to the Aussie Millions, Mr. jeciimd took home a staggering $20,733.14 during the BBTwo. Oh, and even though he didn't bring home the bacon in the BBT, he still finished near the top of the points and took home a nice prize. In each series, he found a way to exploit us all and that's what he did.

jeciimd, if I didn't give you the credit you deserved in the first BBTwo event, just know you are getting it right now. You smoked us all and deserve every dime you've earned.

As for me and the BBTwo, I'm ultimately disappointed in my showing, though there were some bright spots.

The highs...

~ A 2nd and 4th place finish.
~ One of only 6 players to break the $1000 money earned mark in BBTwo.
~ $2881 moneys earned in BBT and BBTwo (not net of fees mind you).

The lows...

~ A 2nd and a 4th place finish (ultimately not what you want in a TOC format).
~ Only 2 final tables and 3 ITM for 24 events.
~ Low average points (18.86) since I played 24 of the events but only landed in the points 6 times.
~ Lower net profit than BBT since I played lots of events and earned less money this go around (actualy net numbers tbd if Al decides to post them).

Ultimately, I had a great time. These events were fun for me and I never put pressure on myself. Probably the only pressure was when folks would mention I would definitely take down a TOC. However, I am not let down about anything so far in BBT or BBTwo. While, like most, I'm ready for them to be over right around the time they do end, I absolutely love the series of events.

A HUGE thank you goes out to Al, Hoy, Mookie, Don, Kat, Full Tilt and everyone who played a part or participated in the BBTwo, making it even better than BBT. Now lets take some time, get back into the joy of blonkaments, and then before you know it BBThree will be upon us.

Until next time, may the felt be with you.

Blogger Luck Game - Redux

Fuck. I'm starting to remember why I didn't mind so much when we bagged the DADI poker tournaments.

First, I fucked up and posted the wrong banner for the Blogger Luck Game, which has since been pimped around with the incorrect information.

If you were registered, please be sure to log back in and re-register for the correct tourney. My apologies for the mix-up...Full Tilt flubbed that one up, but no big deal.

I have to hand it to folks like Al, Hoy and Mookie who host weekly tournaments. This shit's not easy, especially when you're a fuck up like me.

BLOGGER LUCK GAME

Last Sunday we had the Blogger Skill Game.

This Sunday I thought we could take it to the next level!

We take it to the extreme...

...we take it to the...

BLOGGER LUCK GAME!

That's right folks...check your skill at the door. Pony up your $11 and lets see who truly is the lucksack among the poker bloggers. Sure you could get a haircut or vakini wax for $11, but wouldn't your mobneys be better spent determining who can rightfully kiss all our collective asses with their lucksackiness????

Don't be losery, get your tail to Full Tilt posthaste.

Oh and if you get a hankerin', promote this biatch.

Big ups to The Mook Man for coming up with the banner idea. The man is a photoshop genius.

*Edit*
It seems I've screwed up and put the wrong banner up. I originally thought the blinds were going to be 3 minutes, but Full Tilt could not accomodate that, so I had to settle on 5 minutes. I know, I know...that totally adds some skill to the game. Whatryagonnado right?! I let Mookie know about the change and he fixed the banner, but somehow I still put up the wrong banner and now I can't find the one showing 5 minute blinds. Based on the lucksackiness of this tournament, I hardly believe anyone will give two shits whether it is 3 or 5 minute blinds, but I didn't want any grief after the fact for not mentioning it. So there's that.
*End Edit*

Until next time, may the felt be with you.

2007 WPBT Winter Classic 12.07.07 (Friday)

"What Time Are We Getting Up?"

Humans are not built to wake up at 3:45am. Or, at the very least, not this human. I mean it's pitch ass black outside at that time. That kind of darkness is only good for boning, cow tipping and sleeping (in that order as it just so happens). However, when the Vegas and WPBT Winter Classic alarm goes off, you skip the snooze option and get your punk ass up.
So that's what this punk ass did.

There was a chill in the air as ChickJax and I headed out the door at 4:30am en route to the airport. The brisk wind gave a taste of what we would feel in Sin City. Who knew we would forego a weekend of beautiful weather in Greensboro for windy and cold Vegas. Not what I expected, but I wasn't going to Vegas for the weather. I was going for the hookers and blow.

Wait, scratch that last sentence.

iPwned

Getting up at 3:45am was the first bad beat of the trip, but it wouldn't be long before bad beat number two would rear its ugly head. Our first flight was a shorty from Greensboro to Charlotte. I can make that drive in less than 90 minutes, so you know the flight is short. Since you can't use MP3 players during taxi, take-off, preparing to land or landing, it is pretty pointless to try and use one on a flight that is a total of 25 minutes. Thus, I kept my 80G iPod stashed...or so I thought.

On the 2nd flight from Charlotte to Vegas, I knew there would be plenty of iPod time as we were flying for 4 hours and 45 minutes. Once I heard the bell announcing MP3 players were allowed, I went straight for my bag. I located my cell phone and Blackberry immediately, but my iPod was no where to be found. Usually I store my iPod in one of the zipped up sections of my bag, but since it would be one of the first things I would use on the trip, I put it in the side pocket without the zipper. Bad idea.

Looking back at the first flight, I remember feeling something hit my foot under the seat, but I thought it was my bag. Also I was trying to catch some quick Zzzz's during the short flight, so I decided not to open my eyes. Bad idea #2. Once I realized it was gone, I let the flight attendant on the 2nd flight know that I lost it on the previous flight. I also asked for their lost and found number. She told me to speak to the rep at the desk once we landed in Vegas, but she also told me my chance of getting it back was slim to none. Apparently they contract out their cleaning services between flights, so they have no control over the cleaners ganking anything and everything they come across. All that hard work down the drain. iPwned. Daddy needs an iPod Touch.

The Man That Gets Shit Done

It was fitting the first blogger ChickJax and I see as we walk into the Imperial Palace is Falstaff. Being the new and improved, svelte TripJax, it took virtually no effort for Falstaff to lift me from my feet in a massive bear hug. That's just how the loveable guy rolls. I've seen it throughout other trip reports, but it bears repeating. Falstaff is the fucking man. He doesn't have to plan shit for us. No one does. But he does and that deserves some kudos. So thank you good sir. I wasn't able to buy you a drink in Vegas, but I'll be bringing you something tasty at your next home game. Speaking of, I'm pretty sure it was at Falstaff's house where I met my first poker bloggers, BadBlood being the very first blogger I ever met at Falstaff's front door.

Speaking of meeting new people, ChickJax and I met a ton of bloggers on the first day and I just don't have it in me to link everyone we met. Just know it was an incredible experience meeting so many new people or seeing familiar faces again. I'll link folks when I can, but you know how that goes. Just wanted to throw that out there...now lets keep on keepin' on...

"I Did Not Have Sexual Relations With That Sponge"

Eventually ChickJax and I took a stroll throughout the shops at Caesars with Instant Torture. That's when the unfortunate meet up with SpongeBob occurred. The most terarded thing about the following picture is not that I'm about to smoke SpongeBob's pole. It's that I did not secure any prop bet mobneys from willing bloggers prior to doing so.

SpongeBob says...
"It's not just the picture that embiggens if you click through."

Keno And Slots Bitches!

I have something rather embaressing to admit. Some of the best bloggery poker action was going on Friday night at the mixed game tables...and I didn't play a single hand of poker the whole day. When we got to the Imperial Palace, ChickJax and I were riding high on the Vegas buzz. We caught a quick bite to eat and then headed straight for.....erm.....well.....you see.....the thing is.....we went straight to the video keno machines.

Flashback many years ago when ChickJax and I were dating. We were visiting my bro, ChapelncHill, at an entertainment park he managed and they happened to have some slots. For whatever reason, we decided to each put some cash in the machine and play some keno, a game neither of us had ever heard of before. A few hours later we were both walking out of the place like rockstars, turning our $20 into over $500.

So of course it made sense for out first shared gambling since then be Keno. And blogdamnit we had a great time! I stuffed $40 in that machine and when it was all said and done, we cashed out $40.25. Officially in the green on the trip (yeah, please don't mention the iPod right about now).

Soon after we were mindlessly punching buttons at the regular slot machines and having a great time in the process. The idea of someone offering free drinks while I'm playing a $.25 slot machine is mind boggling to me, but I love it. I kept the beers flowing and before we knew it, we were up nearly a couple hundo on the night. In fact, I told ChickJax we should go ahead and earmark our winnings from Day 1 towards a couple of the items she saw while window shopping at Caesars earlier in the day (the shopping happened at or around the SpongeBob incident).

It wasn't too long before 11:00pm slapped us in the face. Vegas is just getting started at 11:00pm, but at that point it had been a very long day. It felt like 2:00am for us and we were creeping towards being up for 24 straight hours. It definitely showed in my eyes and my swagger (or lack thereof). We were both beat and decided to call it a night.

I had seen some good old friends and met many new ones throughout the day. An awesome day indeed. When I look back on the day, however, it was ChickJax who was probably overwhelmed with a TON of new folks to meet. And I must say, she took it all in stride, with a warm welcome and huge smile each time I made another introduction. She really was a trooper throughout the weekend. She was excited as I to finally put faces to names of people I'm constantly talking about. Thanks babe!

I'm forgetting some things that I will need to look back on, but for now I'm running out of steam.

Until next time, may the felt be with you.

Erick Lindgren

His book is my favorite of all the poker books. Don't look at me that way. I know there are some kick ass books out there, but something about his book really hits a chord with me. So when I saw him waiting for an opponent, I had to give it a go.

Missed the buy-in by $20. Blogdamnit!

*cough*

Ruh-Roh

I've been off work since last Friday and ended up coming back to work today. I probably could have taken today off as well, but I try not to take more than 5 days in a row, so I decided to come in. My plan was to coast through the day, do a little work here and there, then get back into weekend mode before the real work kicked in on Monday. My decision to come in was fortuitous

I completely forgot that, prior to taking time off for Vegas and vacation, my bosses had scheduled my year end review for today. Ruh-Roh. And not just a review with my boss here local, but the higher-ups as well on a conference call from New York. Completely.Fucking.Forgot. Luckily, I managed to nail the review on a whim and everything worked out fine...except for now I'm being slammed with unexpected work and being behind from the long ass review. My day has officially been thrown out of whack, which is in itself whack. I had planned on some blog reading, trip report writing and general chillin', but that's gone. So instead you just got the lamest ass post ever instead of a trip report. I promise, trip report will be on like donkament kong on Monday.

See you then. Back to work.

Until next time, may the felt be with you.

Happy Birthday KidJax 12.12.07

You're probably here looking for a trip report from my recent forays into the WPBT winter classic in Las Vegas. I'd like to say I'm ready to do that, but I'm not. Lots of family stuff going on and I'm just now coming back down from the Vegas and brogger high. This was my first brogger event with ChickJax on the prowl and it was a very cool experience. I need to let things sink in and then I'll be back. I'm on vacation the rest of the week with plenty to do so we'll see how brogging goes the next few days.

In the meantime, tomorrow is KidJax's birthday, which is the reason for this post.

Happy Birthday Boy.

Terarded Prop Bets

Oops. It seems I went and made a terarded prop bet last Friday whilst drinking. After work I went for a few drinks with fellow employees and the drankin' eventually continued on at my house. Some friends came over and, at some point, my buddy MTW and I made a bet. I don't even remember how the subject came up, but here are the details of the bet...

Moustache-Off ’07 Official Rules and Regulations

Competitors: MTW, TripJax

Commissioners: ChickJax, Tron

Judges: ChickJax, Tron, Alx, SissyFacer, TBD

Moustache-Off Competitive Statement:

The above competitors agreed to be judged in several categories as to the quality and effectiveness of their respective moustaches. The competition is to begin on December 1st, 2007 and conclude on New Year’s Eve, sometime prior to getting shit faced out on the town. It was agreed that whoever loses the competition would buy all alcoholic beverages for the winner between the hours of 10 p.m. and 2 a.m.

The competition specifics are as follows:

~ Competitors must grow a moustache only – no goatees or beards will be allowed.

~ The minimum facial hair length allowed on other parts of the face not containing the moustache will be only a 1 guard.

~ Competitors are to document their moustache on a daily basis preferably with a digital photo.

~ The judging categories are as follows:
- Length
- Consistency
- Style
- Density
- Best Hair (single hair picked by each competitor)

~ Competitors will be judged in each category on a scale of 1-5 (5 being the best). Scores will be totaled from each judge with a perfect score being 25. The highest and lowest score for each competitor will then be dropped and the 3 remaining scores will be totaled to determine the winner.

~ The winner of the Moustache-Off ’07 will receive the Moustache-Off trophy to keep in their possession until the next Moustache-Off competition.

~ All rulings and judgments will be passed through the commissioners of the Moustache-Off and their word is final

~ Should anyone have a problem with this they can go fuck off

~ I mean it, you can go straight to hell

~ You know how I like to abuse power

Tron
Co-Commissioner
Moustache-Off ‘0712/5/07

Gotta love it...thanks commish for putting that together.

This particular bet is a tough one for me for a couple of reasons.

~ I work in financial services and, for the most part, the unspoken expectation in our office is clean cut with professional attire (suit and tie). While I do occasionally sport a beard or an extended five o'clock shadow, the lone 'stache in our office is a rarity. It makes its presence among the elders in the office, but no so much for folks my age.

~ I look ridiculous with a lone 'stache. Seriously, I look like a pedophile or something. In fact, as I've mentioned here before, the only time I felt like I could show myself in public with a lone 'stache was on Halloween when I went as a Person Of Interest.

Now understand, I'm not knocking anyone who currently sports a 'stache. I'm just saying they don't work on me. Which begs the question, why would I agree to the bet in the first place? Obviously alcohol played a part, but maybe a part of me is attempting to face a fear. I don't foresee facing my fear of heights or zombie transvestite hookers anytime soon, so I might as well take on the 'stache.

I'm telling you all this now because in just a few short days I will be in Vegas meeting some folks for the first time. The facial hair is still in the early stages as the bet just started recently, but if I look a tad disturbing, worry not 'cause I'm only doing it for the free alcoholic beverages...oh and the booze too.

So if you see this at the tables in Vegas...

Instead of this...

...then just wish my 'stache well and worry not, I shan't try and go after your children.

Until next time, may the felt be with you.

Fun With Callwave: #2 (GCox Style)

Work is kicking my ask, which is why I'm just getting to my first post of the week today. I'm gearing up for Vegas like it's my job. Blogdamm I can't wait! ChickJax and I are flying in Friday morning and should be perusing the IP lobby at or around 11:00am. Look for us folks 'cause we're new to the Vegas scene.

In lieu of posting any poker stuff, which has been rather meh for me lately, I'm gonna do another Fun With Callwave post. If you missed my 1st one, or if you just wanna know what the hell I'm talking about, check here. This particular call was from none other than your friend and mine, Mr. GCox25. I called him drunk off my ask on Friday night and he returned the favor Saturday night. Unfortunately I was nursing a sickness (I swear it wasn't hangover related) and was passed out when he called. Enjoy.

The GIST As Texted To Me:

...City you can call me when you're good and let up last night but I can't call you when I'm getting drunk tonight what rod yeah I'm in the parking lot of because was bar add - for travel like in the middle of nowhere Oklahoma thought I'd give you a call for a little doll shot but apparently you're busy so I will - let you go talk to you - to probably before Thursday but if not Thursday or Friday zebra.

My Initial Take After Reading The Text, But Prior To Listening To The Voicemail:

~ I knew right away he was on to me for calling him on Friday, but not catching him on Saturday. I couldn't figure out what "rod" meant though. Figured he was calling me a "dillrod" or something.

~ When I read parking lot, I figured he was at the lake house bar parking lot taking a shot. During Okie-Vegas #1 we would leave the bar and hit the parking lot to hit the Southern Comfort bottle since they didn't serve liquor in the bar. Good times.

~ To hell with dial-a-shots, we're taking Doll Shots now. That's gotta involve taking shots off of strippers or something.

~ I really need to talk to GCox25 about his Friday zebra.

The Actual Voice Message From GCox25:

"Uh Trip...this is GCox in Oklahoma City...so you can call me when you're good and lit up last night, but I can't call you when I'm good and drunk tonight...what the fuck! I'm in the parking lot at the Crows Roost bar at Fort Cobb lake in the middle of nowhere Oklahoma and thought I'd give you a call for a little dial-a-shot, but apparently your busy so I will let you go...talk to you probably before Thursday, but if not probably Thursday or Friday...see ya bro...bye."

So the system turns "see ya bro," into "zebra." That's gold, Callwave, gold!

Gotta love it.

Zebra,

TripJax

Until next time, may the felt be with you.

The Onion

As usual, The Onion makes funny:

Entire Blogosphere Stunned By Blogger's Special Weekend Post
November 28, 2007
Issue 43•48

NEW YORK—In what is being called a seminal moment in Internet history, a rare weekend post by 25-year-old blogger Ben Tiedemann on his website bentiedemanntellsall.blogspot.com rocked the 50 million-member blogosphere this Saturday. The landmark post, which updated nearly every member of the global online community on the shelf Tiedemann was building, was linked to by several thousand sites, including Daily Kos, Digg, and The New York Times. "Wow, what a special treat this was for all of us," said Talking Points Memo head blogger Joshua Micah Marshal, who, along with all other bloggers, checks Tiedemann's site every day just in case something monumental occurs. "I thought I was going to have to wait until Monday to find out if Ben decided to put [the shelf] in his bedroom or the living room. The pictures were great, too." Within two hours of going live, Tiedemann's 15-word post received 34,634,897 comments.

I almost never post on the weekend, which makes me posting the above Onion article here on Saturday sort of funny...at least to me...
